FLAT HIERARCHY
CALMNESS
INDEPENDENCE
These elements are more than just a set of organisational practices.
They are rooted in deeper cultural roots that begin in childhood and continue to shape the way people work, lead and work together as adults.
What's really behind Finland's way of working?

In Finland, children are not under pressure to impress at an early age.
On the contrary, they're inspired to be curious, self-sufficient, and responsible, all in a low-stress environment.
This has created adults who, by the time they enter the world of work, they:
Don't have to wait to be told what to do.
Have confidence in their own time and task management.
Have a sense of leaders as guides rather than bosses.
HIERARCHY
Hierarchies are flat in Finnish workplaces.
However, this doesn't mean that there is no hierarchy. It means that leading looks different.
Leaders don't control your time - they expect you to manage it well.
Leaders usually don't remind you of every upcoming deadline - they trust you to keep track.
Leaders don't exaggerate how well you're doing - but they'll gracefully back you up, and expect the same in return.
And among colleagues? The atmosphere can be informal yet professional.
That's what's expected of you:
Take initiative
Be reliable
Respect others' time and space
Contribute without dominating
COMMUNICATION
At first sight, Finnish communication may seem minimal.
But it's actually designed to be:
Clear. People don't use many words, but they mean what they say.
Neutral. Emotions are kept private, not acted out.
Respectful. No talking over others, no showing off.
It's expected of you:
Be a good listener.
Be able to give and receive feedback.
Be open to new ideas and suggestions.
Acknowledge when you've made a mistake.
Maintain clear personal and professional boundaries.
